Nenias Gerd Leufert / Alvaro Sotillo
Collaborators: José Luis “Chuchi” Sánchez and Federico Pojan
“The name Nenias was adopted by Gerd Leufert to identify a series of figures he began developing as a theme in the early 1960s. In its conventional musical context, the term refers to ancient chants or laments performed as part of funeral rituals.
“Mundo Nenia. Gerd Leufert 1914-2014” was a conmemorative exhibition dedicated to showcasing and reflecting on the visual theme of the nenias, developed by the artist and designer Gerd Leufert (Lithuania 1914 – Venezuela 1998) from the 1960s through the 1990s.”

Hector Fuenmayor: CITRUS 6906 On Ficus Religiosa
“Buddy tree… refers allegorically to the Sacred Fig or Ficus religiosa located in the Botanical Garden of the Central University of Venezuela—a plant from the same family as the tree under which Buddha reached enlightenment over 2,500 years ago. This reference is not foreign to the investigations of Fuenmayor, who was ordained a Buddhist monk in 1983 by Abbot Eido Tai Shimano and has practiced traditional Japanese fencing for several years. From this, his permanent search for the spiritual, touching upon the meaning of the sacred in Eastern culture without excluding allusions to Western religious traditions embodied in certain passages of Christianity.”
