The first and primary focal point of intervention is infrastructural issues: provide it with services and carry out basic actions to reactivate the school. Electricity, water, drainage, waterproofing, etc. And the second, in more architectural aspects: interventions that allow the community to freely use its spaces publicly and privately, transform surplus areas to incorporate new programs into the school, include the boundaries of existing spaces as a complement to them and their activities, and the implementation of color for the development of activities in the spaces and their identification.
A school from the late 1950s reflects many formal and constructive values of modernity, but it also reflects deterioration due to abandonment and lack of maintenance over the last twenty years. The detrimental condition of all its infrastructure makes it impossible to use the facilities and it is currently disabled. However, the generous dimensions of each of the spaces, the good ventilation and natural lighting, the patios and retreats that surround it, present an opportunity for intervention for the development of programs that benefit the school.
The main access is enabled with small private and public squares that serve both the school and urban community. Internally, 2 bathrooms are preserved for the school community and the others are replaced by a new program such as the teachers’ room and the nurse room.
The rooms have a better relationship with the main patio and corridors, and on the other side with the boundary enabled as a complement to outdoor activities. The kitchen, dining room and orchard area are concentrated, creating a visual and spatial relationship that facilitates its use and production process.
